Yaoxi Wei comes from China. Currently studying MA Fine Art at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL.
Yaoxi Wei is an interdisciplinary art participant who has been exploring the meaning of life, concerning herself with the value of human beings, focusing on the relationship between man and nature, and paying attention on traditional Chinese culture and communication between different cultures.
Her projects mainly involve the value of self-existence and environmental issues , and she often incorporates her own experiences into her artwork, which enable her work to be a combination of "space + material + emotion”.
She strives to connect the audience to the work through participatory interaction as well. Plentiful elements in her work concerning the interaction with the audience, and the ultimate product presented is normally in collaboration with the audience.
Art is an "outlet" for Yaoxi. She hopes that her artistic creations can be planted like seeds in the hearts of viewers, provoking thoughts about their own lives, causing a change of mind and having a positive effect.
She thinks that installation art can best expressed and are messengers of human’s emotions. She also believes that works rich in personal experience, emotion and style can be more impressive.
Therefore, she hopes that through the interaction between her installations and the audience, who would get a more immersive experience, and that the works could resonate with the audience emotionally, as performance and social engagement usually play a very significant part in her work.She believes that each person is a unique artist and that in her work everyone is free to participate in the creation.
In the post-epidemic era, Yaoxi has also gradually combined video and social media with her art, making it more accessible to a wider audience.
Her art displays the great reverence and ponderation for life and her exploration to the world.
